The Teen Patti

Teen Patti Overview - Ranking of Hands

Teen Patti can be performed in two different ways. The two Joker cards, which serve as wild cards, can also be used in addition to the usual 52-card deck. The goal of the game is to maximise the pot before the showdown while holding the strongest three-card hand possible. Any higher category hand wins over any lower category hand. Regardless of who requested a showdown, if two players have the same combination, the money is shared between the two. The player with the higher suit wins the pot in a different version where the suits are ranked.

The categories are ranked as follows:

Three of a Kind
Three of the same cards. Three aces are the highest and three twos are the lowest trio.

Straight flush
Shahi and Pure run are further names for pure sequence.
Three cards in a row from the same suit.
According to the highest card in the sequence, the order of ranking goes as follows: A-K-Q, A-2-3, K-Q-J, Q-J-10, and so on down to 4-3-2. Although it is a legitimate flush, a wraparound (K-A-2) is not regarded as a straight flush.

Straight
Run is another name for a sequence.
Three cards in a row that are not all of the same kind. A round or a sequence are other names for a straight.
As with straight flushes, the rating goes from highest to lowest as follows: A-K-Q, A-2-3, K-Q-J, Q-J-10, and so on down to 4-3-2. The hands K-A-2 and straight flushes are also invalid.

Flush
The three cards all have the same suit. The person with the highest card wins if two players both have flushes; if their high cards are the same, the next highest card is compared, and if necessary, the third card. The hands are sorted by suit, with spades coming in first and clubs coming last, if two players have the identical card values.

Pair
two identical-rank playing cards. The pair having the highest value wins a contest between two pairs. The value of the third card determines the winner if the pairings are tied in value. As a result, 2-2-3 is the lowest pair while A-A-K is the highest.

Non - Pair
If two players share a common high card, then rest of the cards are compared based upon their values.

Probabilities
Below is a description of the odds for the different ranking combinations. Without the two Joker cards, all these probability are given for 52-card teen patti. The probability vary significantly in Joker variations, especially for pairings.

The deck has 52 cards. The combination of the three cards, not the order in which the cards are dealt, is what counts. The formula for combinations nCvar>r (COMBIN(n,r) in Microsoft Excel and related spreadsheets) calculates the total number of combinations of any element, taken r at a time, from a collection of n items. In order to compute the total number of three-card hands from a deck of 52 cards, the formula 52C3 = 22,100 is used.

Although the probability of being dealt a pure sequence is slightly less than that of a trio, trios are considered higher hands in most versions of the game. Because of this variance from strict rarity, a popular house rule is to treat 2-3-5 of the same suit as a straight flush, thereby increasing the number of possible straight flushes to 52, the same as a trio, bringing the probabilities even.
